The In Motion School of Dance
In Motion School of Dance, under the direction of Lizz Pimentel, opened its doors in Sept 1997 to let a new era of dance and innovation enter. The school offers a complete dance curriculum ranging in courses for tots to advanced levels, taught by fully qualified instructors. At In Motion, students are encouraged to reach their highest level of skill through individualized attention, to nurture a positive self-image and to appreciate and develop a love for dance.
In Motion offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, pointe and were pioneers in introducing classes like creative movement, improvisation, parents & tots, Capoeira, Salsa, Swing, and Pilates to its curriculum. In addition to boasting a fully qualified and licensed teaching staff, In Motion now offers a more specialized dance curriculum to allow all ages to come and enjoy the art of dance. Classes like Parents and Tots allows toddlers of 18 months and older to interact with their parents in a creative and positive atmosphere. Adult classes are also available in the evenings to compliment a busy work schedule. New classes like choreography and improvisation allow more advanced students to express themselves in a way previously unavailable to the Bermudian dancer. In Motion continues to offer quality dance training and is known for its friendly and welcoming environment.
In Motion has presented 5 company performances and 6 dance showcases to date and travels annually with its Junior and Senior Company dancers to New York City for classes and workshops. Dancers at the school perform both locally and abroad and have had the opportunity to perform at various local and overseas events including Harbour Nights, Eden Project, American Society July 4th Celebrations, the Bermuda Film Festival, the Bermuda Magic Show, the Agricultural Exhibition, Timewarp 200's Millennium Celebrations, for Amnesty International, the Premier's Concert and most recently at Disney World in Orlando! In addition to performing dancers have also had the opportunity to work with dancers from MOMIX and the San Jose Ballet.
In Motion brings environmental awareness to its students and has held five Annual Trash-a-thons in collaboration with Keep Bermuda Beautiful to help raise money for costumes and educate the students on the importance of maintaining the islands beauty.
Starting out with only Lizz teaching and forty students in their original one studio location in Chancery Lane, In Motion has grown and has now moved into Bermuda's premier dance facility. With three spacious, air-conditioned studios, and on premise dancewear store "Backstage", the school now has 9 fully qualified instructors and over 700 students in the In Motion family.
In addition to holding its annual performances, In Motion is the first studio in Bermuda to hold informal in-studio performances for its more advanced students. Our second "Works In Progress" show was held this past February and was a great success. "Works In Progress" allows our students the opportunity to develop and create their own choreography to be performed in an informal and supportive environment. This is another way that In Motion supports and promotes our young dancers and Bermuda's youth.
